NIAGARA FALLS
A BUCKET LIST ESCAPE
There aren't many places that can rival Niagara Falls in terms of displaying Mother Nature's majesty. The Falls, as well as the landscapes surrounding them, are a breathtakingly magnificent natural phenomenon. 189,600 tonnes of water rush over The Falls every single minute of every single day.
Niagara Falls is the collective name for the three waterfalls that run along the US-Canada border, forming the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. Bridal Veil Falls, American Falls, and Horseshoe Falls, the largest and most powerful in all of North America.
Combined, the falls have the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, and a vertical drop of over 165 feet. The velocity with which the river descends creates a misty fog and an audible roar that can be heard for miles. From the top, crowds flock to the railings to feel the mist on their faces.
The waterfalls can be seen from a variety of perspectives: on foot, from behind in caves accessible by elevator; from the air in helicopters; or from observation towers. One of the most memorable ways to do so is to dress up in a poncho and board a Maid of the Mist boat. Since the 1840s, these boats have been transporting visitors to and from the base of the falls. Prepare to get wet! The Maid of the Mist almost submerges you beneath the falls, but rain gear is supplied, and many people consider this to be one of the best ways to view the magnificence of Niagara Falls.
Taking one of Niagara Falls' top tours is another opportunity to see this natural wonder. However, both the New York and Canadian sides offer a variety of activities to keep visitors occupied away from the falls. Old Fort Niagara and the Niagara SkyWheel are two of the many family-friendly attractions in the vicinity. If you're not travelling with children, try your luck at the Niagara Fallsview Casino or visit the Inniskillin Winery to enjoy some of the region's famous ice wine.
Niagara has evolved from a classic honeymoon destination to a kitschy romantic destination throughout the years, but it’s still widely regarded as one of the most romantic spots in the world! However you choose to witness this incredible natural phenomenon, it’s a sight you’ll never forget.
